Guangzhou inks FPSO conversion

Guangzhou Dockyards made a great effect at the beginning of Chinese Dragon year, which is about the “Cidade de Ilhabela” fully conversion contract. After a prolonged endeavor, this conversion contract was finally awarded to the Chinese yard by SBM. The contract requires the company to convert the VLCC “Cidade de Ilhabela” to FPSO, main tasks are special mooring system add-on、inport/outport platform and main deck renewal、reinforcement in tank、rebuilding accommodation and combustion foundation、engineroom recondition、cargo hole blasting、and special coating etc.,this project is completing at 1st June, 2013.   Chairman of Company Mr ZHANG Qinghuan appreciated the support, cooperation and trust from SBM, and expressed that the Company will continue to improve production design, project management, production organization and sub-contraction management tasks, to do Company’s best in order to assure the vessel deliver on time.   The “Cidade de Ilhabela” pre-work conversion contract was signed on 28th July, 2011, the vessel then enter the shipyard for the pre-work conversion. Under the support and instruct during these five months, Company obtained great effort on the pre-work conversion and acquired the appreciation from SBM.  

Port Guangzhou container traffic rose 13.4 percent in 2011

Container traffic at the Port of Guangzhou in 2011 increased by 13.4% year-on-year to 14.4 million TEU. Its throughput tonnage increased five percent to 448 million tonnes, Xinhua reports. Guangzhou's seaport facilities handled 14.23 million TEU, up 13.4 per cent. Overall tonnage grew five per cent to 431 million tonnes. Last year, Guangzhou invested CNY2.75 billion (US$436 million) on port infrastructures, 5.8 per cent more than in 2010. Some CNY750 million was spent on navigation channel projects, accounting for 27.3 per cent of the total.

Xinfeng terminal at Guangzhou port to suspend cargo handling from January

XINFENG Terminal at the Port of Guangzhou recently announced it will end the general cargo loading and discharging business, excluding aquatic products from January 1. Additionally, all containers and general cargo placed at the terminal, excluding aquatic products, should be moved out by March 1 at the latest. The terminal said in a statement that this move is to comply with Guangzhou municipal government's restructuring policy on transforming businesses from secondary to tertiary industries. Instead, shippers may deliver their cargo by using the Henan Terminal's Fangcun inner berth No 3 and No 4 at the Guangzhou Port, said the statement.

Eight new PSVs will be of Havyard 832 L SE design. Havyard 832 L SE is based on the Havyard 832 CD design and has been further developed in accordance with customer demands and also general market demands. Compared to a standard Havyard 832 CD this new design is extended and also has a larger ship interior. As a result Havyard 832 L SE has a bigger deadweight tonnage (storage capacity), accommodation for more people and is far more flexible in regards to the types of jobs the ship can do. In addition to usual platform supply jobs this vessel is also designed to perform smaller types of construction work and general maintenance and repair on subsea oil installations. The ship is prepared for installation of offshore cranes as well as ROV- (Remotely Operated Vehicle) handling. GUANGZHOU's port of Nansha is booming, and with 20 of the world's top 500 companies having set up branches there and important infrastructure projects afoot, the port area is ready to become a logistics hub in Asia, Xinhua reports. Ten years ago, Guangzhou government decided to upgrade its port facility and develop harbour-front industries, turning port of Guangzhou from a river port to a sea port. In 2008, Guangzhou has entered the list of top 10 container ports in the world. In 2010, throughput in solely the Nansha port area has hit 7.25 million TEU, six-fold of that five years ago. Nansha now has 10 deep-water berths of 50,000 to 100,000 tonnes, and is operating 43 domestic and international lines, 31 are foreign trade lanes. Seventeen of the world's largest carriers operate services from the port area. During the early half of this year, Nansha's container throughput grew 12.4 per cent year on year to 3.9 million TEU, while throughput tonnage grew 14.6 per cent to 65.9 million tonnes. The port area has attracted more than 300 investment projects over 10 years.

Guangzhou Shipyard revenue up but profit halved

{非本站图片} Hong Kong: Net profit at Guangzhou Shipyard International was almost halved in the third-quarter due to impairment costs from shipbuilding contracts and lower gross margins. The Hong Kong-listed Chinese yard posted net profit of RMB145.46m ($22.88m), down 44.7% from RMB263.17m seen in the same quarter of last year. Revenue for the quarter amounted to RMB2.12bn, up 30.3% compared to RMB1.63bn a year earlier. “During the period under review, the company is facing the challenge in operation, which was effected by the continuously slowdown of global economy, macro-economic control of domestic economy, depressive new shipbuilding market and appreciation of RMB,” the company said. In the first nine months of this year, Guangzhou Shipyard completed and delivered 15 ships, launched 17 ships and commenced construction work for 18 ships. The company also secured shipbuilding orders for construction of nine vessels. As at 30 September 2011, Guangzhou Shipyard accumulated orders for building 43 vessels with a total tonnage of 1.81m dwt.

China's Guangzhou port recorded container volume of 1.01 million TEUs in September, a 24.6 percent year-on-year jump, reported ADPnews. The result took container volumes at the port to 8.3 million TEUs in the first nine months of the year, a rise of 17 percent from the respective period in 2010. The port has benefited from the launch of three services by Maersk Line and Pacific International Lines (PIL) at its Nansha terminal last month. However, Guangzhou Port Group, which operates the facility, said it expected business to shrink this month as the peak shipping season comes to an end. It also noted the slowdown in Asian exports experienced by other port operators.

The port group projected container volume would “slightly decline” from September, mirroring the slowdown operators across the trade world are seeing in Asia exports. The 1.01 million 20-foot equivalent container units Guangzhou Port Group handled in September gave the port its third straight record quarter and 8.3 million TEUs in the first nine months of the year, 17 percent ahead of last year. Cargo traffic rose 16 percent to 7.3 million TEUs in first eight months of 2011 The Port of Guangzhou’s cargo traffic in the first seven months of the year rose 16 percent year-over-year, as the port complex benefited from Maersk Line using it as a gateway to South China.The port handled 7.3 million 20-foot equivalent container units in the same period, boosted by 1 million TEUs in throughput last month.Maersk pledged earlier this year to use the port’s Nansha terminal as its third gateway to South China, along with Yantian and Hong Kong. Nansha calls have since been added to a number of the carrier’s strings, mainly at the expense of Hong Kong.Throughput at terminal between January and August rose by over 20 percent year-over-year to 5.5 million TEUs. The terminal is partly owned by Maersk sister company APM Terminals.

THE Port of Guangzhou's cargo traffic in the first seven months of 2011 increased 16 per cent year on year, much of the rise attributed to Maersk using its Nansha terminal, which is closer to Shenzhen than Guangzhou city. Nansha is administratively part of the Port of Guangzhou, but it is only 20 kilometres from Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong, and 40 kilometres downstream on the Pearl River from the City of Guanzhou, formerly known at Canton. The port handled 7.3 million TEU in the same period, boosted by one million TEU in August. Maersk pledged earlier this year to use the port's Nansha terminal as its third gateway to south China, along with Shenzhen-Yantian and Hong Kong, noted Newark's Journal of Commerce, adding that Nansha calls have since been added to Maersk services, mostly at the expense of Hong Kong. The terminal, partly owned by the Maersk group, increased volume 20 per cent year on year to 5.5 million TEU between January and August.

Guangzhou Shipyard H1 profit down by 23pct YoY

It is reported that Guangzhou Shipyard International a company mainly involved in the shipbuilding and ship repair businesses, posted a 22.83%YoY decrease in first half 2011 net profit to CNY 263 million with earnings per share of CNY 0.41. Sales revenue in the same period increased 37.66%YoY to CNY 3.98 billion. The company attributed the increase in shipbuilding revenue to higher production efficiency. The drop in net profit was attributed to the lower prices of ships, yuan appreciation and higher labor and material costs.
