DURING the first half of this year, Chongqing's cargo movement grew 18.8 per cent to 518 million tonnes, according to Xinhua's report.

Railway cargo volume increased 2.8 per cent to 10.9 million tonnes. The growth was 4.3 percentage points faster over the same period last year. Waterway cargo volume climbed to 58.87 million tonnes with a 10.1 per cent slower growth of 12.1 per cent. Road cargo traffic climbed 20.1 per cent, but 0.2 percentage points slower year on year, to 448 million tonnes.

Airfreight recorded a robust increase of 24.1 per cent to 129,543 tonnes. The growth was 10.6 per cent faster year on year. International cargo weighed 37,316 tonnes, domestic cargo 92,227 tonnes, inbound cargo 66,116 tonnes, and outbound cargo 63,427 tonnes.
