Hyundai Heavy Industries has developed a world's first dual fuel engine package for ships.
The Korean company announced today that it gave a demonstration of large-size dual fuel engine, medium-size dual-fuel HiMSEN, dual-fuel engine package linked with Hi-GAS, LNG fuel supply system.
Large-size engine for ship propulsion has been jointly designed and manufactured by MDT of Denmark and Hyundai developed dual-fuel HiMSEN for ship and generator and LNG fuel supply system by itself.
The 35,600-hp large engine can select gas fuel and liquid fuel and 5,150-hp HiMSEN has recently gained type approval and passed a test.
In particular, dual-fuel engine package can be installed into every type of commercial ship as well as LNG carrier, which can satisfy shipowners' demand for eco-friendly vessels.

The Ulsan-based engine maker plans to pass the final type approval of the package and begin commercialization by the next month.
Meanwhile, Hyundai takes 30% of global engine market.
