LAST year, Sino-Mongolian border checkpoint Manzhouli handled 30.06 million tonnes of freight, up 6.2 per cent from 2012, which making it the largest overland checkpoint in China, Xinhua reports.

Manzhouli's rail checkpoint handled 28.84 million tonnes of cargo, up 6.4 per cent. Its road checkpoint handled 1.21 million tonnes, up 15 per cent.
The inauguration of a number of China-Europe railway cargo services via Manzhouli including the Suzhou-Manzhouli-Europe service, led the checkpoint's robust growth in volume and value. Containerised imports and exports via the checkpoint climbed six per cent to 71,106 TEU.
Manzhouli checkpoint has also improved its customs clearance facilities by opening the third cross-boundary road checkpoint for coach passengers which enables separation of different type of passengers to enhance efficiency.
It also has streamlined clearance procedures, which have reduced vehicle clearance time 70 per cent from four to five hours to only one to one and a half hours and secured continuous growth of the checkpoint's freight volume.
