NINGBO-Zhoushan port in eastern China's Zhejiang province handled 1.7 million TEU in September and is now positioned to knock out Korea's Busan as the world's No 5 container port.

In the first eight months of the year Ningbo's throughput amounted to 14.8 million TEU, an increase of 12 per cent year on year.
By comparison, Busan port handled 12.2 million TEU from January to August, an increase of 3.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2013.
The results indicate that Ningbo port is on track to over take Busan to become the world's fifth largest port by the end of the year.
The world's top port, Shanghai, reported a throughput of three million TEU in September, down three per cent compared to the preceding month, reported London's Port Technology International.
The world's second biggest container port, Shenzhen, handled 2.2 million TEU in September, lower than August's 2.24 million TEU, which represented an increase of 29.5 per cent year on year.
