It has turned out that Samsung Heavy Industries (Ningbo) Co., Ltd., Samsung Heavy Industries’ Ningbo corporate in China, successfully delivered ‘Active’, the first vessel among product carrier (PC) series constructed for Greek shipowner Capital Maritime & Trading, on March 31.

Construction of the 50,000 dwt vessel measuring 183m in length with 32.2m in width begun in March, 2014.

Samsung (Ningbo) is scheduled to finish construction of the eight same-sized PCs in total which were awarded from the Greek owner by the end of 2016. Among them, three vessels are reportedly under construction.

It is said that newbuilding contract value of the eight vessels surpasses CNY 1bn (around $161m) in total.

The second vessel will be launched on April 22 and finishing work for the third and fourth ones has been carried out favorably. While the first vessel ‘Active’ has been delivered successfully, Samsung (Ningbo) reportedly plans to start construction of the fifth vessel soon.

The eight PCs are the first newbuildings the yard won from non-Korean shipowner.

Meanwhile, the yard delivered 17,000 dwt ‘Ningbo 1’ to S&P Marine without any problem in May, 2013, which is Samsung (Ningbo)’s firstly built heavy-lift carrier. Later, Samsung (Ningbo) has continuingly improved its construction capacity and now, it is capable of building four vessels at the same time.
