Shenzhen port terminals face severe congestion, partly due to Covid cases

MAJOR terminals at the Port of Shenzhen in China are facing congestion, according to Ocean Network Express (ONE) announcement.

According to ONE's update, the congestion at the Port of Shenzhen is evolving with the port's Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT) operating at a very high yard density. Additionally, several Covid-19 cases were reported earlier last week, and the local authorities have tightened the sanitary and quarantine measures around the area.
This is the reason that Hapag-Lloyd has decided to temporarily change the Far East Loop 2/3/4 from calling Yantian to Nansha Container Terminal for the following sailings: Far East Loop 2 (FE2): voyage 015W Al Zubara, voyage 013W MOL Treasure and Far East Loop 3 (FE3): voyage 001W HMM Raon.
"At present, the operations at YICT are disrupted due to Covid-19 implications," pointed out the German carrier, which said that the voyage details for the consecutive weeks will be announced in due course, reports Container News.
The western area of YICT has remained in suspension of operation whereas overall terminal operation productivity has been adversely impacted, noted ONE which added that terminal congestion and vessel berthing delays are anticipated in the coming week.
With the latest update from terminals, there are suspension and adjustment to their export laden gate-in operation at YICT, Shekou Container Terminal (SCT) and Chiwan Container Terminal (CCT).
With the berth congestion and delay, ONE said it is exploring various possibilities, including vessel and cargo diversion to adjacent ports, in order to facilitate the movement of its cargo.
