HONG KONG's Seaspan Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of New York-listed Atlas Corp, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with a major shipyard for ten 7,000-TEU newbuild containerships.

In mid-September, it was announced that Zim Integrated Shipping Services had exercised its option to enter into long-term charters for five 7,000-TEU dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) Seaspan newbuilds for US$530 million.
The new 10-vessel announcement, describes the newbuilds as scrubber-fitted, and will begin deliveries in the second quarter and through to the fourth quarter of 2024.
Upon completion, the vessels will enter long-term charters with a leading global liner customer. Seaspan expects the vessels to generate $1.4 billion over their minimum terms.
Said Seaspan chairman, president and CEO Bing Chen: "With our previously announced order of fifteen 7,000 TEU dual fuel vessels, this newbuild order is further evidence of the deep customer demand for this vessel size, which is uniquely suited to replace the global fleet's aging cohort of 4,000 to 9,000 TEU vessels."
Atlas, which lists its headquarters as the United States, is an asset management company, owner and operator of RKO Pictures, Convair, Seaspan Corporation and APR Energy.
