K Line moving tanker ship management to Singapore

K Line is shifting ship management of its gas and oil tankers from Japan to Singapore.

As part of restructuring its safety and quality control organisation K Line is setting up K Marine Ship Management in Singapore.
The Japanese shipowner said management of its oil tankers, LPG and LNG carriers would be transferred to the Singapore company by the end of September this year from K Line Energy Ship Management in Japan.

The new Singapore company was established in January this year and headed by President Shoji Fukuda.
“In addition, as one of the global bases that support the activities in Asia area of our business divisions from the forefront, we will accelerate efforts to decarbonize and introduce DX (digital transformation) technology,” K Line said.

Singapore is a popular shipowning and management base for Japanese shipping companies. K Line has had a shipowning presence in Singapore for over two decades setting up K Line Pte Ltd in 2001. Compatriot Japanese shipowner NYK has a major ship management presence in Singapore through NYK Shipmanagement, which was also established in 2001.
Japanese container line joint venture Ocean Network Express (ONE), a partnership of K Line, NYK, and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has its global headquarters in Singapore.
