Shanghai Port Group container throughput falls 17.8pc in June

Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) handled two million TEU in June, dropping 17.8 per cent year on year with cargo falling 7.6 per cent to 30.5 million tonnes, Logistics Week reported.

In the first half, volume decreased 15.6 per cent year on year to 11.7 million TEU, 41.7 per cent of the full year target. Waterway transit containers accounted for 40.4 per cent and Yangtze River feeders accounted for 21.2 per cent. Those transited via feeder services between sea ports accounted for 8 per cent. International transit containers represented 6 per cent.

Yangshan Port Area's box volume dropped 7.7 per cent to 3.6 million TEU. Waterway transit container took up 50.6 per cent. International transit boxes took up 11.7 per cent.

The group's half-year throughput went 11 per cent down to 169 million tonnes, accounting for 46.3 per cent of its annual target. Foreign trade cargo dropped 13.7 per cent to 110 million tonnes. Import decreased 5.3 per cent to 57.6 million tonnes. Export fell 21.3 per cent to 52.8 million tonnes.
