SOUTHEASTERN China's Fuzhou International Terminal (FICT) handled more than 150,000 TEU during the first quarter, an increase of 47 per cent year on year compared to the same period in the preceding year, Logistics Week reported.

In March, the terminal handled 50,299 TEU, up 36 per cent.

When the world shipping market is hard hit by the financial turmoil last year, FICT still recorded a robust growth of 30 per cent in its container throughput, which for the first time surpassed 500,000 TEU last year.

By the end of 2009, Taiwan-mainland shipments moving through the terminal exceeded 100,000 TEU. Sailings between FICT and Taiwan came to 1,590 voyages.
