Capes down again

The capesize index slipped again after making much ground on Tuesday from a strong front-haul rate.

Things were perhaps looking a little better for supramaxes despite another small index drop as two fixtures east and west from the US Gulf grabbed high rates.

Capesizes

Morgan Stanley has the 180,900-dwt Anangel Harmony (built 2010) from Southeast Asia to Australia and China for $37,500 a day, very decent for the Pacific.

But a straight roundtrip from the Far East to Australia only set DHL back $28,000 a day with the 158,000-dwt Aeolian Glory (built 1991).

Panamaxes

A significant high point was the $34,000 a day Agroships spent on the 73,800-dwt Newcastle Max (built 1997) from the Black Sea to the Far East.

Another strong rate was the $25,000 per day Norden put down for a run from Taiwan to Southeast Asia and on to an undesignated port with the 75,500-dwt Pessada (built 1999).

Cargill booked a pair of contrasting fixtures, stumping up $19,750 a day for the 93,300-dwt Chaitali Prem (built 2009) from Europe to South America and back and $18,000 from Southeast Asia to Australia and the Far East with the 75,900-dwt Prabhu Satram (built 2004).

STX Pan Ocean went higher, the Korean finding $21,000 per day for a spin from China to Southeast Asia and India with the 82,600-dwt Beijing 2008 (built 2008).

A roundtrip within the Indian Ocean from India to South Africa has Oldendorff coughing up $17,850 daily for the 76,400-dwt Ocean Prince (built 2004).

Armada spend $18,000 per day to shift the 75,000-dwt Golden Strength (built 2009) from the Med to West Africa and back.

Supramaxes

STX has put down a huge $41,500 a day for a trip from the US Gulf to the Far East with the 52,400-dwt Yasa H Mehmet (built 2001).

Also from the US Gulf but to the Med set MUR back $31,000 per day with the 52,600-dwt Topflight (built 2005).

Clipper spent $33,250 per day for the 55,200-dwt Navios Kypros (built 2003) from South America to the Med.

A short hop from North Europe to the Med set Nordic Bulkcarriers back $25,000 a day with the 55,500-dwt Nord Tradition (built 2009).

Elsewhere a trip from India to China cost someone $18,500 a day with the 55,400-dwt Jin Xing (built 2007). And a roundtrip from India to Australia cost someone $19,500 per day with the 57,000-dwt Dai Shan Hai (built 2010).

An unidentified charterer paid $20,250 for the 55,200-dwt Navios Hios (built 2003) to travel from the Far East to India via Southeast Asia. It’s the same as British Marine spent on the second leg of the journey with the 51,000-dwt Eleni M (built 2001).
