The CSAV America Express (AMEX) all-water service has added the Port of Savannah to its rotation, said Georgia Ports Authority's (GPA) executive director Curtis Foltz.

"The Port of Savannah offers a logistically friendly location with two on-terminal rail providers and immediate access to two interstate highways, which helps us attract additional cargo," Foltz said.

The weekly service links North China and South Korea with the East Coast of North America. It first called on Garden City Terminal in mid-December 2010.

Savannah is the first port inbound on the US East Coast after the Caribbean transhipment over Kingston. The AMEX service offers a transit time of 25 days from Busan to Savannah.

Foreign ports of call include Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, Xingang, Busan, Manzanillo (Panama), Kingston and Cartagena.

The AMEX service has 10 vessels, which range from 3,500 to 4,200 TEUs. It is the second CSAV Latin American service to begin calling on Savannah in the last 18 months.

CSAV also participates in the Tango Sling 2 East Coast South America service with MSC, which calls on Garden City Terminal.

"As the second largest port on the US East Coast, Savannah currently participates in 15 of the 16 Asia via Panama services that call on the USEC,” said GPA’s chief commercial officer Clifford Pyron.

"With the addition of the AMEX service, Savannah has 42 weekly vessel calls covering all of the major trade lanes."
