As larger demands for labor force in West and Central area of China, the situation seemed serious in Chinese coastal areas like Zhoushan especially the period after Chinese Spring Festival. As a result, the shipyards located in Zhoushan tried all measures to attract more workers.

Wu Gang, who was a worker from Anhui Province, said that his boss of Zhoushan Xinya Shipyard called him several times during Spring Festival holidays, to ask whether he could go back earlier to work.

Currently Xinya had 15 ships under construction. By February 20th, it would reach 20 units. Vice President Xia Songkang of Xinya said generally the company needed 3,200 outsourced workers. However, the figure was just 1,000 now.

To attract more workers, the yard raised worker's salary level as more as 20% up and issued subsidies during Spring Festival. They arranged special bus to pick up workers to come to work. The leading group even saw workers off in the port. Meanwhile, the accommodation condition for workers was improved a lot as well.

Zhejiang Dongpeng Shipbuilding needed over 700 workers but only 300 arrived at present. Facing labor shortage, a representative said the yard would also raise salary level and government's support was expected. Longshan Shipyard even assisted worker's children to study in local schools.
