Xinjiang's cross-border trucking moved three million tonnes in 2011

NORTHWEST Xinjiang province, which borders eight countries, had a record cross-border truck haulage of 3.44 million tonnes in 2011, hitting three million tonnes for the first time while passenger volume reached 684,000, reports Xinhua.
Unique among provincial jurisdictions Xinjiang borders on Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan and India with 107 cross-border cargo and passenger routes, accounting for 43.4 per cent of China's total.
The regional government has simplified and optimised entry and exit procedures for trucks. Xinjiang now has the most opened-up checkpoints and the longest cross-border transport mileage in China.
