GOVERNMENT of Nantong city in Jiangsu province is to invest CNY40 million (US$6.43 million) on a high-standard "informatised" management system along the 70-kilometre Nantong section of the Lianyungang-Shanghai navigational channel, developing it into the first intelligent navigational channel in the province, Xinhua reports. The "informatising" project will add eight intelligent systems in dispatching and piloting through the Nantong section. Surveillance facilities will also be installed at major terminal service areas along the channel and congestion-prone points together with buoys. The intelligent equipment will collect real-time information of the navigational facilities and the vessels, analyse data automatically and send out warnings. The Lianyungang-Shanghai navigational channel started construction in 2010 and is to be completed and commence operation by the end of 2013. It has a capacity of 1,000 tonnes.

NANTONG city, on the estuary of the Yangtze in Jiangsu province, is aiming to build up a terminal cluster at the Nantong Binhai Park, a harbour-front and industrial park at Tongzhou Bay, Xinhua reports. Tongzhou Bay has deepwater coastline of 150 kilometres, which can accommodate one hundred 50,000- to 100,000-tonne ships and ten 300,000-tonne berths, according to Shi Hongjie, vice director of Nantong Binhai Park administration committee. "Tongzhou has the most unexploited resources for port development in China", said Shi. Statistics from the preliminary study that to build a 300,000-tonne navigational channel at Tongzhou, the dredging distance need only be 20 kilometres and have a depth three metres, which is the least of the dredging projects on the northern Yangtze River. Besides, by seaside reclamation, a land area of over 400 square metres can be formed at Tongzhou Bay for waterfront industries. The city has now started reclamation and terminal construction projects at Tongzhou Bay.

COSCO Nantong names Shuttle Tankers

PostTime:2011-09-19 08:55:21 View:842

Two 59,000DWT Shuttle Tankers, built for the Danish owner LAURITZEN TANKERS A/S, were named “DAN CISNE” and “DAN SABIA” in COSCO Nantong Shipyard last month. The Panamax size vessels are double hulled DP ¢òshuttle tankers, registered with NK Class, and comply with the safety requirements of both the Danish Maritime Authority and the Brazilian national oil company “Petrobras Campos Basin Offshore”. COSCO Shipyard owns all the independent intellectual property rights of their basic design, detailed design, and production design. Compared with similar foreign tankers, these shuttle tankers have better maneuverability to provide crude oil transfer services between FPSO, FSO, oil platforms, and onshore oil facilities. Their bow loading systems are able to achieve precise transmission of crude oil both in the floating state and in the moving state of the supplier and accepter. Both vessels are equipped with a dynamic positioning system, schilling rudder, controllable pitch propeller, fore-and-after thruster and unmanned machinery space facilities. These special features enable them to carry out all special offshore operations in harsh environments. At the naming ceremony, Mr. Xu Hui, Deputy Mayor of Nantong City, congratulated the yard on the successful construction of the 59,000DWT series of shuttle tankers. He explained how the contract fully demonstrates the technical strength of COSCO Shipyard in the field of offshore engineering. Mr. Ma Zhihong, Party Secretary of COSCO Shipping, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Nantong municipal government for their long care and support of the development of the COSCO Shipyard, and added that COSCO Shipping will continue to cherish every opportunity given by our partners to play an active role in ocean oil and gas development. The CEO of LAURITZEN TANKERS highly praised the high-quality design and efficient construction ability of COSCO Nantong Shipyard and indicated that the two companies will further strengthen cooperation to build more and better offshore engineering products together.

Keppel Nantong to build 5,000 t floating crane

PostTime:2011-09-15 08:24:33 View:1035

Keppel Nantong Shipyard Co. Ltd. in China has secured a contract worth Singapore $143 million (US $116 million) to build a heavy lift sheerleg crane vessel for Asian Lift Pte Ltd. Scheduled to be completed in third quarter 2013, the 5,000-tonne floating crane will be the largest and most versatile heavy lift sheerleg crane vessel of its kind in the world, MarineLog reports. To be named Asian Hercules III, the self-propelled vessel will have enough power to lift a weight equal to over 5,000 automobiles. The vessel will measure 106 m long and 52 m wide with a hook height of at least 172 m. Keppel Nantong is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. Asian Lift is a 50/50 joint venture between  Keppel Offshore & Marine and Smit Singapore Pte Ltd. The venture started in 1985 with the pooling of sheerleg cranes between both companies and with the timely introduction of the 1,600 t Asian Hercules. Asian Lift owns and operates a fleet that has grown from three sheerlegs to five, excluding Asian Hercules III. This includes the 1,600 t Asian Hercules and the 3,200 t Asian Hercules II. Its fleet has a total combined capacity of up to 6,600 t for multiple crane lift operations. Mr. Lee Tai Kwee, President of Keppel Nantong said, "Keppel and Asian Lift have a winning partnership that has been instrumental to the success of both companies. We are proud to continue this mutual growth with the construction of the world's largest sheerleg crane. Such cranes are essential equipment for the efficient operation of our shipbuilding and offshore construction work. "Keppel Nantong has established a track record in specialized shipbuilding, some of which are harbour tugs and anchor handling supply vessels for Smit. The construction of Asian Hercules III adds another dimension to the versatility and capabilities of the yard, and we look forward to delivering it on time, within budget and in a safe manner." On delivery, Asian Hercules III's first assignment will be in Singapore. It will serve the offshore oil and gas as well as marine markets in Southeast Asia. "We believe that Asian Hercules III will play an important role in serving the industry where heavy lift activities are essential," said Mr. John Chua, General Manager of Asian Lift. "South East Asia is an important market, especially with the high volume of offshore and marine projects being contracted here. With the weight of modules and other components increasing, Asian Hercules III will be well placed to meet the needs of the market for greater lifting capacity." Keppel Nantong is currently undertaking the construction of six 45-t bollard pull twin-screw Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugboats for Keppel Smit Towage. They are being built to Keppel O&M's proprietary design, developed by its technology unit, Marine Technology Development.
