Zhuhai to speed customs clearance through checkpoint expansion

ZHUHAI's municipal government plans to accelerate the comprehensive development and construction of Gongbei customs checkpoint across the line from Macao, reports Xinhua.  The Gongbei checkpoint saw its annual movement of passengers from home and abroad exceed 80 million in recently years. To speed customs clearance, Zhuhai is now focusing on the checkpoint's upgrade through construction, expanding of the entry-exit inspection facility.  The office covers two main areas, the checkpoint area including Lianhua Wanjingcheng covering 50,000 square metres, and the area of the villages of Lianan, Guanzha and Gaosha covering 150,000 square metres.  The government aims to develop the areas into a regional checkpoint and commercial centre to enhance environmental conditions.

Zhuhai: A coal reserve and shipping center at China's Zhuhai port has commenced trial operation on Wednesday.The Zhuhai port coal center is co-developed by China Shenhua Energy Co., Zhuhai Port Co., and Guangdong Yudean Group with an investment of RMB4.57bn ($733.8m). The potentially largest coal reserve and shipping base in southern China is designed with throughput capacity of 40m tonnes a year.The center is equipped with two 100,000 tonne berths, one 50,000 tonne berth, and four 3,000 tonne berths.

Zhuhai Port has started the operation of its new coal shipping base yesterday which is jointly invested by Shenhua Group (40%), Zhuhai Port Group (30%) and Guangdong Yudean Group (30%) with RMB4.568bn, SinoShipNews reports. The project includes two 100,000dwt coal berths, one 50,000dwt coal berth and four 3000dwt coal berths with total annual coal handling capacity of 40m tons. Zhuhai Port said the project will greatly enhance the port’s throughput volume and promote the development of the logistics chain of the port. It has also made the goal of building the largest dry bulk dock and the strategy to expand its hinterland to the West River region. Shenhua Group is a large scale state-owned energy company and is the largest coal dealer in China.

A BIG boost has been given to the Western Pearl River Delta container terminals with the recent opening of a freight railway service from Guangzhou through Jiangmen and Foshan to Zhuhai, Xinhua reports. Five Western Pearl Delta container terminals at Yantian, Da Chan Bay, Nansha, Jiangmen and Zhuhai, stand to reap great benefits from the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway with first class electric rolling stock and add-on passenger capacity. The line is 189 kilometres long, designed for speeds of 120 kph and serve nine stations, Datian, Guanyao, Danzhao, Heshan, South Jiangmen, Gujing, Doumen, West Zhuhai and Gaolan Port. This is the first freight railway - with passenger capacity - on the western side of the Pearl, bringing intermodal service to the region and easing pressure of the westbound freight movement from Guangzhou. At present, the West Zhuhai Railway Station Logistics Centre and rail lines for cargo distribution at the Gaolan port are being built as auxiliary projects for the new railway. The CNY2.5 billion (US$401 million) West Zhuhai Railway Station Logistics Centre covers 206.67 hectares, which will be built on adjacent to the waterfront logistics facility offering multi-modal, warehousing, distribution, bonded logistics, inventory management and supply chain management.

Zhuhai port extends LNG business with CNOOC

Zhuhai port announced the company is planning to set up a jv with CNOOC Energy Development, under a 40;60 ownership, to boost LNG business at Zhuhai Gaolan port area, SinoShipNews reports. The jv will be engaged in LNG receiving terminal tugboat service at Gaolan, environment protection service, and promoting LNG bunkering services. The project plans to invest around RMB177.56m to build two 6500HP tugs then to be chartered to CNOOC Gas & Power Group, which aims at 40m tons annual import volume of LNG by 2015.

ZHUHAI port group, operator of the western Guangdong province port of Zhuhai, registered a throughput of 474,800 TEU, or 25 million tonnes in terms of cargo tonnage last year. It also recorded a bulk throughput of 21.1 million tonnes. Its container, bulk throughput and tonnage total have all recorded double-digit growth, faster than the average growth of seaports in China. Wu Aicun, chairman of Zhuhai Port Group, said the group will start a number of new projects this year including the phase two container terminal at Gaolan port area and the first phase of a new logistics park at the port. Mr Wu said, as Guangzhou-Zhuhai railway, Gaolan expressway and Zhuhai airport expressway open to traffic in 2013, Zhuhai port's throughput will be increased further to 255 million tonnes.

Zhuhai launches weekly service to Dalian to fetch steel for electronics

THE Port of Zhuhai, opposite Macau on the mainland, has started a domestic container shipping service to north eastern Dalian port, Xinhua reports. Zhuhai Port Group chairman Wu Aicun said the service provide one sailing per week, mainly carries steel coil from steel plants in northeast China for a local electrical appliance manufacturer and ship its products back to northeast. Using containers for shipping steel coils avoid rust damage and will also enjoy subsidies from Dalian government for shipping bulk cargo in containers, expected to cut transport costs eight per cent. Mr Wu said Zhuhai handled 745,200 TEU with throughput growing 20.31 per cent to 65.32 million tonnes from January to November. Zhuhai will speed construction of the Gaolan terminal phase 2 project and 100,000-tonne navigation channel dredging project. It plans to raise its throughput to 200 million tonnes by 2015. Besides the new line, Zhuhai is operating 10 domestic container shipping services and two foreign trade lanes to Latin America.

Zhuhai Port  plans to fully acquire two subsidiaries belonging to its parent, Zhuhai Port Holding Group; Zhuhai Port and Logistics Investment Development and Zhuhai Hangwu International Shipping Agency, for 280 million yuan, reports {非本站网址}, citing a company filing. Port and Logistics Investment Development has a registered capital of 161.47 million yuan and owns four subsidiaries and affiliates. The listed company will expand its port logistics business through the acquisition. The acquisition of Zhuhai Shipping Agency will help the listed company to strengthen its competitiveness in the shipping agency services and freight forwarding business. It will also eliminate horizontal competition between Zhuhai Port and the two target companies. Zhuhai Port had acquired seven logistics companies from its parent group in 2010. For the first three quarters, Zhuhai Port recorded a 47 percent year-on-year increase in earnings from its port logistics and auxiliary businesses.

Zhuhai Port to issue CNY 300 million in bills

China Knowledge reported that Zhuhai Port Holdings plans to issue CNY 300 million worth of 366 day unsecured bills on the interbank market on October 20. Coupon rate will be determined in the process of book building. Both value date and payment due date wise set at October 21 and the to be issued bills tradable on October 24. The issuer said proceeds from the issue will be used to repay bank loans and replenish working capital. Shanghai Brilliance Credit Rating & Investors Service Co Ltd has rated the issuer and bills AA and A-1 respectively. China Everbright Bank Co Ltd has been assigned as the lead underwriter. This will be the issuer first short term bill this year.

Zhuhai Port plans to acquire 100 percent stakes in Zhuhai Gangtong Investment Development and Zhuhai International Shipping Agent for a total of 280 million yuan from its parent company, Zhuhai Port Holdings, reports Shanghai Securities Journal, citing a company filing. Zhuhai Gangtong, founded in 2002 with a registered capital of 170 million yuan, is a shipping agent and handles the logistics and storage businesses of Zhuhai Port Group. Zhuhai International Shipping Agent, founded in 1997 with a registered capital of four million yuan, is an international shipping agent. According to the company, the acquisitions are aimed at further optimizing the company's port logistics business, and eliminating related party transactions with its major shareholder.

Zhuhai Port  and Wuzhou Traffic Investment & Development will jointly create a new company called Zhuhai Wuzhou Dalikou Port, reports {非本站网址}, citing a company filing, Capitalvue reports. Dalikou Port is located in Wuzhou city, Guangxi Province, at the convergence of the Xun River and the Gui River. The joint venture there entails two 1,000 deadweight ton hydraulic structures and will have registered capital of 10 million yuan. Zhuhai Port will invested 72 percent of that sum, and the project requires a total investment of 220 million yuan. Dalikou Port is expected to be operational in 2014, with container throughput of 50,000 cases and bulk cargo throughput of 250,000 tons. Zhuhai Port will also cooperate with Guangzhou Development Coal Investment, Singapore IMC Group, China Resources Investment and Shanxi Coal Import & Export Group to create a bulk cargo port in Gaolan Port District of Zhuhai city. Zhuhai Port reported a 145.58-percent year-on-year increase in net profit to 208 million yuan in the first half of 2011, with revenue of 189 million yuan, up 0.92 percent year-on-year.  

Zhuhai to boost development of Gaolan port zone

The Zhuhai city government recently released ambitious plans for the development of Gaolan Port Economic Zone, reported China Daily.According to the plans, Gaolan port will handle more than 100 million tonnes of bulk cargo and three to five million containers in five years.The blueprint envisions the port as an industrial hub for chemicals and heavy industry in about a decade, said Wu Aicun, deputy director of the zone's administrative committee.The design also calls for the zone to be a leading centre of marine engineering, equipment manufacturing, shipbuilding and drydocks, petrochemicals, clean energy, logistics and tourism.Wu said a US$6.65 billion project will turn the zone into the shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment manufacturing base with the largest tonnage capacity in China.
