SOUTHEAST China's sea port Xiamen lifted 3.21 million TEU from January to June this year, climbed 12 per cent from the same period one year ago, Xinhua reports.
An official from the Fujian Province Transportation Department said the West Taiwan-strait port aggregation, which consists of ports in Fujian province, is gathering speed in development. In the first half of year, total investment on navigational channels at these ports has exceeded CNY4.7 billion (US$737.4 billion).
Though Xiamen's steel and coal throughput fell as affected by slowing down economy, the port is actively seeking to expand its hinterland to gain more cargo and has succeeded in cooperating with eastern Guangdong city Chaozhou on building a new feeder terminal there to provide Xiamen with more container cargo.
