PORTS in China's southeast province Fujian recorded a collective container throughput of 4.87 million TEU in the first half of this year, 10.3 per cent more than in the same period a year ago, Xinhua reports.
Total overall volume increased 8.5 per cent to 193 million tonnes. The largest port in the province, Xiamen, lifted 79.86 million tonnes, up 4.8 per cent, while another major port, Fuzhou, handled 52.14 million tonnes, up 11.2 per cent.
In the same period, Fujian's transshipments from other province jumped 46.5 per cent up to 8.3 million, indicating the province is becoming a more important gateway for the neighbouring hinterland provinces.
