TAIWAN's Evergreen Marine is installing Navis' MACS3 loading computer on its two newbuilding series of containerships in an effort to improve the safety of onboard cargo handling.

Owned and operated by Evergreen Marine, the ships are currently being built at two different shipyards in China, reported Ship Technology, London (Kable).
The Jiangnan shipyard is building four 2,500 TEU box ships which are scheduled for delivery between February and November 2020, reported Ship Technology, London (Kable).
Jiangsu New Yangzijiang shipyard is constructing two other 1,800 TEU containerships that the carrier plans to commission in March and May 2021. All the vessels will sail under Japanese classification society Class NK.
Navis vessel solutions product management head Ajay Bharadwaj was quoted as saying: "Our software engineers collaborated closely with the classification societies in order to secure the implementation of all rules providing by different systems into MACS3 while maintaining the performance of the loading instrument.
"We will work to ensure that all of our customers reap the benefits of applying the updated lash rules from MACS3."
MACS3 is the industry standard loading computer for container vessels and offers an advantage for cargo securing rules.
