China Shipping Group 2007 Operating Revenue Up 20.57 Pct to Over 10 Bln Usd

China Shipping Group, one of the country's two largest sea shipping groups, said it's total operating revenue grew 20.59 pct to over 10 bln usd in 2007.

Pretax profit was over 10 bln yuan, the company said in a statement without providing comparative figures. Its total operating costs rose 11.7 pct while net assets were up 59 pct.

The company also transported 370 mln tons of cargo in 2007, a rise of 14.2 pct from a year earlier.

Loaded container traffic stood at 9.93 mln twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 33.7 pct, the group said. Oil shipping volume fell 1.8 pct to 65.6 mln tons while the volume of coal shipping increased 8.3 pct to 124 mln.

The shipping group, which owned 443 vessels with total deadweight of 17.84 mln tons at the end of last year, ordered 76 new ships at 8.5 mln dwt in 2007. Leased tonnage capacity accounted for 20.96 pct of its total.
