The shipping is always regarded as the clean way of transport. But latest research showed the ship had become an important pollution source. The report indicated that about 30% of global annual nitrogen oxides omissions came from ships on the sea.

IMO began research on Greenhouse Gas Effect since 2000. On February 22nd, Chinese government also issued 'Development Report of Chinese Sea' which covered serious pollution of China's costal area.

Currently global warming, environmental pollution and energy price rising all become inevitable topics. The low carbon economy draws more and more eyes. The low carbon economy is the key solution for high energy consumption, high pollution and high omission.

As low carbon economy goes on, it will trigger international oil price rising. As a result, the bunker oil will take a larger part of the total cost. According to COSCO Shipping's report, bunker oil cost occupies 21% to 24% of the company's total cost. If the oil price rises by 10%, the total cost will jump by 2.3%. Some shipping lines will consider quitting market due to high cost along with fewer supplies.

Chinese shipping industry should consider how to deal with the problems occurring from low carbon economy. If the industrial standards and technology are monopolized by developed countries, Chinese shipping industry will have tough time. Now it's the time to prepare.
