DaeHan wins two capesizes

Korea's DaeHan Shipbuilding is seen to make this year's first newbuilding contract to build two capesize bulkers ordered by Hanjin Shipping.

According to industry sources, Hanjin Shipping revealed through a public announcement on the 28th of January that it had ordered three boxships and two capesize bulkers of 180,000DWT, and DaeHan is believed to have become a winner for the two capesizes.

On 28th January, Hanjin Shipping Holdings disclosed that its subsidiary Hanjin Shipping will invest KRW 131.9bn ($117m) to build two bulkers and KRW 213.9bn to build three 4,600-teu containerships since the yard is promoting new charter contracts with large shippers, and its current fleet are aged.

It is heard that DaeHan entered into the final negotiation with Hanjin to win the two 180K capesize bulkers from late 2010 and has finally obtained the order.

Meanwhile, the other three boxships ordered by Hanjin will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries.
