Fuzhou H1 container throughput up 41 percent to 314,000 TEUs

Fuzhou New Port International Container Terminal completed throughput of 314,000 TEUs in the first half of 2010, up 41 percent year-on-year, a new record for Fuzhou, reported NewsTrak Daily.Export cargo surged 46 percent year-on-year during the period, higher than the average growth of Fujian's other ports.The depth of Fuzhou, its proximity and short distance to Taiwan, and opening of more container lines since 2003 to Europe, Middle East, West Africa, Korea, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong line had underpinned its growth.Despite the global financial crisis and the tarnished shipping market in 2009, the throughput in Fuzhou maintained its 30 percent growth and it handled 500,000 TEUs in the year for the first time.

SOUTHEASTERN China's Fuzhou International Terminal (FICT) handled more than 150,000 TEU during the first quarter, an increase of 47 per cent year on year compared to the same period in the preceding year, Logistics Week reported. In March, the terminal handled 50,299 TEU, up 36 per cent. When the world shipping market is hard hit by the financial turmoil last year, FICT still recorded a robust growth of 30 per cent in its container throughput, which for the first time surpassed 500,000 TEU last year. By the end of 2009, Taiwan-mainland shipments moving through the terminal exceeded 100,000 TEU. Sailings between FICT and Taiwan came to 1,590 voyages.

Fuzhou to Japan new container route operates

A commercial sea route from Fuzhou in the province of Fujian to Japan's Kyushu started operation at the Fuzhou International Container Terminal on January 27.The route is operated by Sitc Container Lines Company with four container vessels engaged to offer Fujian a faster and direct cargo transportation service to Japan, from Fuzhou International Container Terminal to Japan's Hakata port terminal takes only two days.Five deep water berths will start operation at the Port by the end of 2008 to cope with the rapidly increasing container traffic when annual volume is expected to reach three million TEU.

China Shipping invests in Fuzhou container terminal

China Shipping Terminal Development Co., Ltd. (CSTD), the terminal operation branch of China Shipping Group, has announced that it has entered an investment agreement with Fuzhou Port Authority Group (FZPA). The agreement comprises two aspects: Firstly, CSTD will purchase a 20% share in the operation of Phase 1 of a container terminal project located in Jiangyin Port Area of Fuzhou. Secondly, CSTD will have a 20% share in the construction and operation of Phase 2. Phase 1 has three berths with a handling capacity of 1.2 million TEU per year, and is currently operated by Fuzhou International Container Terminal (FICT), a consortium of FZPA and PSA. Phase 2 of the facility, which will have two berths, is planned to start construction shortly and be operational by October 2008. When all five berths are in place, Jiangyin Port Area will have a total capacity of 3 million TEU per annum. Statistics shows that the volume growth of Fuzhou Port was strongly driven by containers handled in Jiangyin.Fuzhou handled 980,000 TEU in the first ten months, and is on course to easily surpass last year's 1.01 million TEU.
