Hong Kong's TS Lines launches HK-Tianjin Incheon container service

HONG KONG's TS Line's 1,000-TEU Dejia made a maiden call at the Tianjin Port Alliance International Container Terminal recently, marking the commencement of a new container shipping service linking Tianjin and Hong Kong. It is the 11th container shipping service launched at the Port of Tianjin in 2012, reports Xinhua. Two ships of 1,000-TEU have been deployed on the Tianjin Port-Hong Kong string. The new service arrives at Tianjin on Thursdays and leaves on Fridays, and is scheduled to call at Hong Kong and Incheon, etc, offering weekly sailings. It is said the new service has further enhanced the Port of Tianjin's shipping capacity to the south east Asia, optimising the port's shipping route layout and contributed to the port's achieving its container throughput target this year.

Tianjin's Dongjiang Bonded Port Area opens major Hebei promotion

TIANJIN'S Dongjiang bonded Port Area, China's largest bonded port area, recently held a promotional conference in Hebei province's capital city Shijiazhuang. According to Xinhua's report, nearly a hundred of manufacturers, freight forwarders, carriers and financing companies in Hebei attended the conference and reached a number of agreements with the bonded port area. Tianjin Port Group said, the 10-square kilometre Dongjiang Bonded Port Area has already started full operation with more than a 1,000 companies registered in the area from logistics, shipping, trade and financial industry. Registered capital of these companies has reached CNY68.6 billion (US$10.99 billion). Dongjiang Bonded Port Area director Zhang Aiguo said companies in the zone can enjoy preferential policies in taxation, customs clearance and foreign currency. Carriers, logistics operators, and insurance companies in the area can enjoy exemption from business taxes. The area is also approved as a pilot run spot for foreign invested companies convert foreign currency funds into yuan.

Recently, CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. has won the bid for the project of No. 26 iron ore terminal in Nanjiang area of Tianjin Port, with a contract value of 208 million yuan, DredgingToday reports. Located in Nanjiang area of Tianjin Port, with a coastline of 400 meters, with an annual designed through capacity of 23 million tons and a construction area of 750,000 square meters, the terminal involved in the project is jointly funded by Tianjin Port Logistics Co., Ltd. and Hong Kong Voyage International Group Co., Ltd. The main body combines high piles and high abutments, and the berths are in high-piled structure. After being built up, the terminal will accommodate 300,000t iron ore ships and 400,000t bulk ships. The project is of great significance to filling the gap of Tianjin Port in iron ore handling and propelling Tianjin to build an international shipping and logistics center.

Tianjin expects nearly 60 cruise ships next year

Next year, there will be at least 57 cruise ships visiting Tianjin, according to Zhang Zhendong, general manager of Tianjin international cruise home port, SinoShipNews reports. China has set up the first domestic cruise management company this year and has introduced a luxury cruise ship from abroad, which is expected to be put into operation in January 2013. Currently, Tianjin home port is discussing with the cruise ship manager, HNA Group, to try to make Tianjin as the home port for the maiden voyage of this cruise ship.

TIANJIN, gateway to Beijing, plans to build 250 kilometres of expressways by the end of 2015 and to complete an expressway network of 1,550 kilometre by 2020, reports Xinhua. The projects include 11 new expressways. When completed, it will take one hour to get to suburban towns and to downtown Beijing via expressway, and three hours to northeast China's hinterland and Bohai Rim Region.

A LARGE logistics facility built by the Port of Tianjin at Hebei's Zhangjiakou city west of Beijing, has commenced operation, helping Tianjin to extend its business inward to the northern hinterland of China. According to its long-term development plan, the Zhagnjiakou Logistics Base will occupy four square kilometres and serve as a freight yard as well as warehousing and distributing facility. The first phase covers 323,000 square metres and started construction in June 2010. An area of 73,300 square metres has now been completed. Zhangjiakou is one of the key spots in Tianjin's network in northern hinterland China and the centre of Tianjin's long-haul logistics service network, said an official from Tianjin Port Group. Tianjin port will offer customs in the northern hinterland with door-to-port and port-to-door service with the Zhangjiakou facility. The port also wants to extend financial services to the hinterland region besides developing warehousing, transportation and processing business.

During the first half, Tianjin's 10 "dry ports" posted a 10.9 per cent year-on-year volume increase to 82,500 TEU, adding to the steady growth of the Port Tianjin, Xinhua reports. "Dry ports" are facilities set up by coastal ports in the hinterland regions and offers convenience in customs clearance and intermodal transport, which attracts more cargo. So far, Tianjin has set up 22 dry ports in the hinterland cities and three regional marketing centres in Yinchuan, Xian and Baotou to manage these facilities. Tianjin port's Inner Mongolia marketing centre in Baotou started operation in the first half of year. The port plans to have another four dry ports commence operation this year to raise the number of dry ports to 14. Meanwhile, the port is also casting eyes on other regions with logistics demand and will select suitable ones to join its dry port network. Tianjin customs is also studying on the specific operation procedures of the pilot policy of port of origin tax rebate which the Chinese government offers to Tianjin, and is considering to cooperate with more developed dry ports on the policy.

TAIWAN's TS Lines' ship, the 1,000-TEU ER Riga vessel recently called at the Tianjin's Port Alliance International Container Terminal, at the start of a new container shipping service connecting Tianjin and Hong Kong. Xinhua's report said this is the 11th container shipping service launched at the Port of Tianjin this year. Two ships of 1,000-TEU have been deployed on the lane, which offers one sailing per week and calls at Hong Kong and Incheon. The service arrives at Tianjin every Thursday and leaves on Friday. The report said the new service strengthens the Tianjin's network covering South East Asia, and will give solid support to the port's accomplishment of this year's throughput target.

TIANJIN'S Binhai New Area plans to speed up the upgrade of the infrastructures including airport, sea port, hi-speed railways, expressways and highways. Tianjin port's 300,000-tonne navigational channel and the second phase expansion project of the Binhai International Airport are under construction. On the railway sector, a cross-like network comprising of Tianjin-Qinhuangdao passenger line and Beijing-Tianjin extension line will be built. Binhai New Area is the merger of three Tianjin district of Tanggu, Hangu and Dagang. It is the third experimental field of China for more open-up policies after Shenzhen and Shanghai's Pudong New Area. From 2010 to 2011, Binhai New Area launched 204 new or continued projects with a collective investment of CNY240 billion (US$37.58 billion).

Tianjin Port Group to cooperate with Taiwan International Ports

TIANJIN Port Group and Taiwan International Ports Corporation have signed a letter of cooperation intent to strengthen cooperation on port, shipping and logistics businesses, Xinhua reports. Tianjin Port Group chairman Yu Rumin and Taiwan International Ports Corporation chairman Hsiao Ding-Hsun have signed the agreement on behalf of their companies. Tianjin Port Group's Yu Rumin said the two parties will also join hands on launching more new shipping services and encourage shipping service providers from Tianjin to set up offices at Taiwan and at Tianjin. Tianjin is one of the first ports in China to launch services to Taiwan. It is now operating six lines to Taiwan's Kaohsiung and Keelung with 12 ships offering weekly services. Last year, Tianjin's Taiwan cargo throughput amounted to 176,000 TEU. Taiwan International Ports Corporation is officially founded in March this year, integrating the four ports of Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and Hualien.

Customs at Tianjin and distant Xian sign dry-port cooperation agreement

CUSTOMS of coastal city Tianjin and hinterland city Xian has signed an agreement of cooperation on expanding "dry port" network, which is a sea port's cargo collection facility in the hinterland region, Xinhua reports. According to the agreement, Tianjin will also offer customised service for major exporters, importers and freight forwarders Xian. During the recent year, Tianjin port is speeding up the development of its logistics network covering its hinterland. So far, the port has built up 21 "dry ports" in the hinterland regions.

Dredged to 21 metres, Tianjin's extended navigation channel completed

THE Port of Tianjin's 300,000-tonne navigational channel dredging project has been finished, Xinhua reports. The CNY1.4-billion (US$220.3 million) project began in March last year, which covers a distance of 33.3 kilometres. It was an expansion on the existing 250,000-tonne navigational channel, dredged from 19.5 to 21 metres and extended from 44 to 45.5 kilometres. Tianjin is the largest comprehensive port in northern China. Last year, it recorded a throughput of 11.5 million TEU in terms of container and 450 million tonnes in terms of cargo tonnage, up nine per cent year on year, ranking it fourth in the world.
