TIANJIN hinterland dry ports posted a year-on-year 50 per cent increase in container volume to 180,000 TEU in the first eight months, reports Xinhua. The container throughput handled by the city's dry ports is expected to reach 460,000 TEU in 2017. At present, Tianjin has built 23 dry ports in hinterland including the ones in Hebei province's Shijiazhuang city, Inner Mongolia's Baotou city and Ningxia's Huinong district. It has also set up four regional marketing centres in Xian, Yinchuan, Inner Mongolia and Zhangjiakou.

Tianjin's duplex navigational channel soon to start sea trials run

TIANJIN Maritime Bureau has completed collection of geographical information for mapping of the Tianjin port double-lane navigational channel scheduled open for traffic later this year, Xinhua reports. Today's channel capacity is reaching the limit as ship traffic increases rapidly. More than 70 per cent of the vessels using the channel are under 10,000 tonnes. Tianjin built a one-way channel for them on each side of the major channel used by large ships. Once completed as a two-way single channel will be the largest such navigational channel in the world. The authorities in charge of the mapping of the navigational channel said they have published detailed hydrographic charts showing water depth, shipping lanes, allowable speeds, marking obstacles and port boundaries.

Inner Mongolia's Wuhai and Tianjin sign deal for international dry port

WUHAI, in the western Inner Mongolia, signed an agreement with Tianjin port to build the Wuhai International Dry Port, reports Xinhua.  The facility will be located in Hainan district of Wuhai city, jointly invested by Tianjin port and an Inner Mongolia import and export company.  Wuhai (pop 540,000) spans on the Yellow River and lies between the Gobi and Ordos deserts, it was formerly two towns, Uda and Haibowan, until amalgamation in 1976.  Once completed, the Wuhai dry port will become the city's "golden dock" providing enterprises an output platform for products in Wuhai to the outside world.  The facility is expected to cut the CNY300 (US$48.99) per TEU costs for carrying cargo to coastal ports through the sea-rail intermodal service compared to the traditional way. Also, it can further promote the city's import and export development as well as raise business taxes for local government.

TIANJIN, maritime gateway to Beijing and the world's fourth biggest port, posted a 11.1 per cent year-on-year increase in container throughput to 6.5 million TEU in the first half of the year. The port also posted an 8.1 per cent year-on-year increase in overall cargo volume to 250 million tonnes and handled 60 per cent more international cruise ship business at the same time. Given current results, Tianjin is hopeful of meeting its annual target of 13.5 million TEU and 525 million tonnes of cargo overall set at the beginning of the year, Xinhua reports. A Tianjin Port Group official said Tianjin started to accelerate this year with the addition of ship finance and cruise liners as well as securing more growth from cargo and logistics. Tianjin continues to optimise its container shipping services and expands its international transshipping business and feeder services in the Bohai Rim region. In the first half of year, there were five new container shipping lines launched at the port. Tianjin also expanded its dry port facilities the first half of year. Its dry port facilities' container handling volume surged 48.4 per cent to 135,000 TEU in this period. It enlarged the dry port at hinterland city of Huinong to a logistics park, and accelerated the implementation of a number of projects such as the marketing centre at Zhangjiakou and the auto logistics facility at its Dongjing Port Area.

Sea trials to test Tianjin's multi-lane navigation channel in June

PostTime:2013-04-24 08:19:58 View:931

TIANJIN Port has started to station buoys along its newly completed multi-lane navigation channel - the world's first - in preparation for sea trials in June, reports Xinhua.  The multi-lane navigation channel involved the expansion of the existing 300,000-tonne waterway, adding a smaller channel to each side of the main concourse, allowing ships of 10,000 tonnes to sail in one just like expressway lanes. Once complete, large vessels will be sailing on the main channel while small ships use the two smaller ones.  As Tianjin port continues to develop, its vessel traffic is increasing rapidly and pushing its navigational channel to the capacity limit. The main navigational channel will allow 250,000-tonnes to sail on it in one direction. But as small ships also sail on the same channel, congestion is a problem. By 2020, when the port aims to raise its throughput to 700 million tonnes, congestion will become more severe.  Subject to the limitation of natural conditions, the main channel is adjacent to the two smaller ones with a space of only 90 metres. So the proper arrangement of buoys becomes important.  Ji Kehuai, a engineer from Tianjin's shipping authority, said they have worked out very detailed solution to the arrangement of buoys on the navigation channel and will collect feedbacks from users during the trial operation and make adjustment accordingly.

Tianjin targets port container throughput of 13 million TEU in 2013

PostTime:2013-04-09 08:43:21 View:626

TIANJIN has set a port throughput target of 13 million TEU and 500 million tonnes in overall cargo this year, said Tianjin Port Group spokesman Zhang Liyi. The port also aims to achieve a revenue of CNY28 billion (US$4.52 billion) this year and has planned to raise CNY13.5 billion fixed asset investment. Some CNY12.8 billion has been earmarked for infrastructure. Dredging a 300,000-tonne navigational channel to 22 metres over 35 kilometres will be the year's main infrastructure job. After completion, 18,000-TEU or 300,000-tonne ships can sail in both directions at the same time. The project is a mark of Tianjin's development towards a port with deeper water and will bring the port's function into better play, said Mr Zhang. This year, Tianjin will separate its port areas into three sections, north, south and central, according to function. The northern cluster will be used for cargo handling and cruisers. The central cluster will be a heavy machinery and energy production and transportation base. The southern cluster will be used for petroleum and chemicals. By 2017, the port aims to raise its throughput to 20 million TEU and 600 million tonnes in overall cargo. Besides, cargo handling, Tianjin will also develop services such as ship leasing, trade settlement, international procurement, shipping financing and offshore finance services, in preparation of free port status.

Tianjin port sets box record, volume up 6.2pc to 12.3 million TEU in 2012

PostTime:2013-01-11 08:45:21 View:581

TIANJIN, the major northern port that serves Beijing, posted a 6.2 per cent year-on-year increase in container handling to 12.3 million TEU with overall cargo rising 5.3 per cent to 476 million tonnes. In 2012, Tianjin Port Group recorded a revenue of CNY25.1 billion (US$4.03 billion). The group made investments totalling CNY13.5 billion during the year. Total value of the assets of the group surpassed CNY100 billion. According to Xinhua, despite depression in both the domestic and foreign trade market, Tianjin has managed to maintain growth. Last year, there were 15 new container services launched at Tianjin and nine upgraded by either deploying bigger ships or by increasing frequencies. Four carriers launched Bohai Rim feeder lines, producing 30 per cent traffic growth for the sector. The number of bulk and steel shipping services increased to five and volumes grew 24 per cent. Tianjin also built two regional marketing centres and three "dry port" facilities in the hinterland. It now has a total of four regional marketing centres and 23 dry ports, which has safeguarded throughput growth. The port also started cargo train service to Xinjiang's Hohhot and sea-rail intermodal to the hinterland city Ningxia. Tianjin also completed a number of other projects, which helped increase throughput including a liquefied natural gas terminal, a heavy machinery manufacturing plant, and an oil terminal.
