The port of Ningbo-Zhoushan port has new connection to West Africa with a service by Pacific International Lines (PIL). The containership, Kota Singa owned by Pacific International Lines, has been deployed on the maiden voyage of the new service. A new rail service links Nanchang in China’s Jiangxi province with Ningbo - Zhoushan Port to provide onward international shipping connections. Katherine Si | Dec 04, 2020 Ningbo-Zhoushan port has inked a framework cooperation agreement with Nanchang authority and launched the first batch of trains for Cosco Shipping and Maersk on the route of Nanchang-Ningbo Zhoushan. Jiangxi province is the starting point of Ningbo-Zhoushan port to run sea-rail transportation in other provinces. The port has established platform company in Nanchang for developing sea-rail combined transportation between Jiangxi and the port. Related: Sea-rail container volumes at Ningbo-Zhoushan port already exceed last year After ten years of development, there are now nine sea-rail transportation routes between Jiangxi and Ningbo Zhoushan which have seen total volumes of 541,000 teu to date. Currently, Ningbo-Zhoushan port is cooperating with 43 shipping companies and providing sea-rail container transportation services to 103 ports from 66 countries and regions via Nanchang-Ningbo Zhoushan route. Ningbo-Zhoushan port posted sea-rail container volume of 810,000 teu  in the first ten months of 2020, an increase of 23% year-on-year, surpassing the total volume of last year.

China Merchants Port’s Zhoushan vehicle terminal has officially launched operations. Katherine Si | Nov 12, 2020 The Zhoushan vehicle terminal, located at Dinghai industrial park, Zhejiang province, is a newly built one 70,000 tonnes-class automobile terminal, with an annual design capacity of 600,000 automobile units. As the first vehicle terminal in Zhoushan, it aims become a transportation hub for ro-ro vessels in Yangtze river delta and support the diversified development of Ningbo-Zhoushan port. In 2018, China Merchants Port purchased Zhoushan Logistics which was principally engaged in the operation of Zhoushan vehicle terminal. It is the first vehicle terminal project primarily operated by China Merchants Port, and could help enable the company to develop its vehicle logistics network and enhance its port and port-related business, especially in the region of Yangtze river delta.

Iron ore shipments at Shulanghu terminal of Ningbo-Zhoushan port reached 58.5m tons as the end of October, exceeding the total volume reported last year. Katherine Si | Nov 11, 2020 According to Ningbo-Zhoushan port, Shulanghu terminal posted 58.5m tons iron ore throughput in the first ten months, an increase of 20% year-on-year. The terminal had handled 51 calls from 400,000 dwt very large ore carriers (VLOC) in the period of the first ten months, an increase of 15% year-on-year. Shulanghu is the major port area of Ningbo-Zhoushan port providing ore cargo handling service, which has the largest berthing capacity of VLOC in China. Brazilian mining industry giant Vale is now cooperating with Ningbo-Zhoushan port to jointly build and operate a terminal at Shulanghu which will add a total port capacity of 40m tons annually and further expand the ore handling capacity of Ningbo-Zhoushan port.

THE Port of Ningbo Zhoushan, China's busiest, in the eastern province of Zhejiang, saw its container throughput in sea-rail transport increase 22.9 per cent year on year in the first 10 months of the year, according to the China Railway Shanghai Group, reports Xinhua. The port's container throughput topped 812,000 TEU during the 10-month period, surpassing last year's total and expected to exceed one million TEU in 2020. The sea-rail transport service links the port by railway with parts of China and other countries. The port currently has 17 railway routes linking cities in 15 provincial-level regions across China. Several new routes have opened this year. Auto parts, photovoltaic products, outdoor furniture, white goods and electronic products are the major cargo categories using the port's sea-rail transport service. From January to October, a total of 700 sea-rail freight trains had travelled between the port and Yiwu, world's leading small commodities market.

Vale and Ningbo-Zhoushan in $624m port joint venture

Brazilian miner Vale and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port are setting up a joint venture to build, own and operate a terminal Shulanghu port, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province. The West III Project has a total investment of RMB4.3bn (US$624m), including land acquisition, and consists of expanding the Shulanghu port facilities, developing a new stockyard and two loading berths. By participating in the project, Vale will secure a total port capacity of 40m tons per year in Shulanghu, which will help Vale to optimize its overall supply chain costs, the miner said. It could reduce the time needed to reach Asian markets and increases Vale’s distribution capillarity by allowing the use of smaller vessels.

Sea-rail container volumes at Ningbo-Zhoushan port jump 35% in August

Sea-rail cargo volume at China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan port increased 35% year-on-year in August. The port posted sea-rail container volume of 96,000 teu last month. Iron ore and crude oil shipments also maintained growth. Last month, Ningbo-Zhoushan port saw one new international trade service, and four coastal shipping routes, with its total number of shipping routes reaching 247. Zhoushan Ningshing Shipbuilding established in China

Zhoushan Ningshing Shipbuilding has opened for business and will be a unit of Ningbo Ningshing Holdings focusing on shipbuilding and repair business. The shipyard was purchased and restructured by Ningbo Ningshing Holdings, which was formally known as Longlida Shipyard based in Zhoushan. The newly established shipyard will be engaged in building reefer vessels, bulk carriers, container vessels, barges, product oil tankers, chemical tankers and tugboats, as well as ship repair. Shanghai Ningshing Marine International, a subsidiary of Ningbo Ningshing Trading Group, specializing in shipbroking business for newbuildings, secondhand vessel and ship demolition. Once the shipyard has commenced operations, it will further expand business scope and develop offshore products.  

Ningbo-Zhoushan port to introduce a new 330-metre container berth

NINGBO-ZHOUSHAN is adding a new 70,000 tonne-class 330-metre container berth into operation in July with an annual handling capacity of 620,000 TEU. The berth, located at Chuanshan area of Ningbo-Zhoushan port, mainly services containers and large size bulk cargo, as well as LNG and oil products, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News. With the operation of the new berth, Chuanshan port area will have 11 container berths. Last year, Chuanshan port area recorded a 10.35 million TEU throughput.

Huangzeshan oil transfer terminal in Zhejiang province has officially opened for international trade. The 99,256 dwt crude oil tanker Krasnodar called at No.1 crude oil berth of Huangzeshan oil transfer terminal, Ningbo-Zhoushan port, marking the terminal’s official opening for international trade. Huangzeshan oil transfer terminal is the first VLCC class oil berth in north water area of Zhejiang province, is a key project at Zhejiang Free Trade Pilot Zone International Oil Storage Base. Ningbo-Zhoushan port is a major port for China’s coastal oil products transportation and storage. The port currently operates several oil terminals in Zhejiang, including Asia’s largest 450,000 tonne crude oil terminal at its Daxie port area.

Chuanshan port rail freight station of Ningbo-Zhoushan port has officially started operations. It is one of the significant projects for the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative and will further expand local sea-rail transportation business. The opening up of Chuanshan port rail station will make it to be the third port area of Ningbo-Zhoushan port that is capable of handling sea-railway transportation following Beilun port area and Zhenhai port area. The terminal at Chuanshan port is jointly funded and developed by China Railway Group and Ningbo Municipal Government, and is aimed at greatly improving the sea-rail combined transportation capacity of Ningbo-Zhoushan port. Chuanshan port owns the second largest single container terminal globally, which posted 10.35m teu container throughput in 2019. Ningbo-Zhoushan port, recorded over 800,000 teu sea-rail cargo volume last year, is the second largest sea-railway transportation port in China. It currently operates 17 sea-railway transportation services, covering 53 domestic cities.

Ningbo-Zhoushan raising $1.6bn to fund port expansion

Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Company plans to issue A-shares to Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and its parent company Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group to raise up to RMB11.215bn ($1.6bn) for construction of port expansion projects. According to the proposal, RMB8.9bn ($1.27bn) fund will be used for No.6-No.10 container terminal projects at Meishan port area, the second phase ore terminal project and No.1 container terminal project at Chuanshan port area, general cargo berth renewal project at Beilun port area and other infrastructure construction. The share issue to SIPG is a significant move of the company to optimize the equity structure and promote synergetic development of the ports in Yangtze river delta, said Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Company.
