Ningbo's January container volume up 10pc, hits record high of 1.39 million TEU

PORT of Ningbo's box volume increased 10.2 per cent year on year in January to a new record of 1.39 million TEU, Xinhua reports. During the seven-day Chinese New Year holiday, the port lifted 250,000 TEU, setting a new high of holiday output. A total of 1,356 container vessels called at Ningbo this month. The port handled 1.02 million TEU from ocean shipping lanes, and 106,000 TEU from domestic trade lanes, up 5.4 per cent. In the same month, Ningbo's "dry port" facility in hinterland regions handled a total of 16,681 TEU, 12 per cent more than a year ago. The port expanded its waterborne transshipment business since this year, and recorded a waterway transshipment volume of 232,000 TEU in January, up 30.1 per cent year on year.

Ningbo's sea-rail intermodal container volume doubles

NINGBO posted a sea-rail intermodal container volume of over 40,000 TEU as of late November this year, a surge of 99 per cent over the same period a year ago, Xinhua reports. The sharp increase was a result of the city's efforts in sea-rail intermodal services to Zhejiang province's hinterland cities and to central China's Jiangxi province. Ningbo's sea-rail intermodal network has expended to cover Jiangxi's Nanchang, Shangrao, Yingtan and Jingdezhen city. Ningbo launched sea-rail intermodal service in 2009. In early 2010, the city started the fastest sea-rail intermodal service in China, which is to eastern manufacturing city Wenzhou.

THE Port of Ningbo posted 23.4 per cent year-on-year growth in cargo throughput in the third quarter to 102.04 million tonnes, reports Xinhua. In addition, the port recorded a 13.5 per cent year-on-year growth in container throughput to 4.18 million TEU, while container throughput for the first three quarters reached 11.57 million TEU, up 14.9 per cent over last year. For the first nine months, the port handled 287.6 million tonnes of cargo, an increase of 18.5 per cent year on year, or 82.9 per cent of its annual target. At present, the company has a total of 239 container shipping routes, 11 more than it had at end of 2010. During the third quarter, the port loaded 16.4 million tonnes of ore and 10.87 million tonnes of coal, up 14.4 per cent and 29.4 per cent year on year, respectively.

It is reported that Ningbo Port posted a 23.4%YoY growth in cargo throughput in the third quarter to 102.04 million tonnes, China Securities Journal reports.For the first nine months, it handled 287.6 million tonnes of cargo an increase of 18.5%YoY or 82.9% of its annual target. In addition, the port recorded a 13.5%YoY growth in container throughput to 4.18 million TEUs while container throughput for the first three quarters was 11.57 million TEUs up by 14.9%YoY. At present, the company has a total of 239 container shipping routes, 11 more than it had at end 2010. Wilhelmsen Ships Service opens Ningbo office to extend China network

 WILHELMSEN Ships Service (WSS) has opened a new full service office in Ningbo, providing ship agency and maritime logistics services. The company now has five offices on mainland China. "Our strategy has been to strengthen our network across China to be present where our customers are operating," said Bi Yuping, general manager of WSS Ships Agency & Maritime Logistics China. "The office expansion is aimed at providing the same level of service in China as we offer at all WSS offices throughout the world," said Captain Bi. The company said it will continue to develop its operations in China, providing coverage along all coastal provinces, with further offices scheduled to open in the near future.  

Greencarrier opens in Ningbo, Xiamen, looks to Dalian, Qingdao next

SWEDISH logistics company Greencarrier, eager to strengthen its presence in China, is opening two new offices in south China's Ningbo and Xiamen in addition to the existing offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Its Ningbo office opened on September 1 and is a branch of Greencarrier Shanghai Limited, while the Xiamen office will be open on October 1 to handle cargo shipments in Xiamen, the special economic zone in Fujian province, and Fuzhou, the provincial capital. "As we do in our southern offices, we will offer a complete range of logistics products including sea/air services, 3PL and distribution centre solutions for garments. For us, these sectors have become our specialities since there is considerable demand for companies with the skill to be able to manage these more complex activities," said Greencarrier chief operations officer Niklas Olsson. Mr Olsson said Greencarrier is also keen to penetrate the north China market too. "We are looking at Dalian, Qingdao and Tianjin and have set a target date of early 2012, although it may happen before that," he said.

The Swedish-headquartered logistics specialist Greencarrier, which has in recent years expanded substantially within the Nordic countries and the Baltic states, is continuing with its programme to create a network of offices in China. Greencarrier already had over 30 staff in offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen. It is now opening two more offices, one in Ningbo and the other in Xiamen. Next on the agenda says Niklas Olsson, CCO of Greencarrier International, will be an office in Northern China: "We are looking at Dalian, Qingdao and Tianjin and have set a target date of early 2012, although it may happen before that. ”As we do in our southern offices, we will offer a complete range of logistics products including Sea/Air services, 3PL and distribution centre solutions for garments. For us, these sectors have become our specialities since there is considerable demand for companies with the skill to be able to manage these more complex activities.”   Ningbo The Greencarrier office in Ningbo opened for business on September 1st and is a branch office to Greencarrier Shanghai Limited. Initially there are three people working in the office under the supervision of its General Manager, Heather Yang:  Edith Wang who is the Operations Manager, her operations assistant Bailey Mao, and Lena Huang, who is the financial accountant. Peggy Pan, who is based in Shanghai, will support the Ningbo operations team as Regional Operations Manager. A dedicated sales team is now being recruited but meanwhile the Shanghai sales team will cover requirements in Ningbo. Xiamen Following Greencarrier’s launch in Ningbo, the Swedish company will open a fifth Chinese office, this time in Xiamen. Due to open on October 1st, the Xiamen office will initially have two staff members, Jessica Xing and Ken Chen, who will be located at the office in Xiamen. The office will be managed by Carman Yeung, who is the General Manager for Greencarrier in South China, which has offices in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.  Announcing this new office, Niklas Olsson said: “Being in Xiamen will enable us to offer a better service to our customers in South China. It means too that Greencarrier Asia can be closer to our customers in this particular region. Greencarrier Xiamen will handle all ocean freight shipments, import and export, in both Xiamen and Fuzhou.”  Earlier this year, Greencarrier acquired the UK logistics company PTS UK, which focuses on road traffic to and from Scandinavia. It also offers a variety of added-value services including facilities for sorting, order picking, re-marking, shrink wrapping and labelling of goods. 

Ningbo's Meishan terminal throughput surpasses 400,000 TEU in one year

MEISHAN terminal, at eastern China's Ningbo port, recorded a container throughput of 423,500 TEU at the end of the first year since it started operation in August 2010, Xinhua reports. In July, the terminal's monthly throughput hit 51,970 TEU, rising 12.3 per cent over June. The terminal now offers shipping routes to Korea, Japan, Latin America and Russia, offering about 140 sailings per month.

Jiangsu Shipyard launches first of three bulk carriers for Ningbo Marine Co

One of three 47,500T bulk carrier (Hull No. CIS47500/B-01 ) for Ningbo Marine Co., Ltd. was launched smoothly in 80,000 tonner slipway at Sanjiangying shipbuilding base by China Shipping Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., which is another innovative hull form following 46,000T oil tankers and 57,300T bulk carriers developed by Jiangsu Company, Worldmaritimenews reports. The captioned 47,500T bulk carrier was scheduled to be delivered by November this year. China Shipping Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd was constructed based on the standard of being the leading company in the domestic country and the first-class shipbuilding enterprise in the world. The shipbuilding base was founded and started operation on April 28, 2007, planned to finish all the constructions and put into full operation in 2010 with annual production capacity of 3.5 million DWT. Presently the company’s orderbook has over 60 ships and the production planning has been arranged till 2012. There are more than 10 ships which have been delivered and classified by ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, GL, LR and other major classification societies.

Shipco offers LCL Xiamen-Chicago, Ningbo-NY services and all-water to NY

DENMARK's Shipco Transport, a non-vessel-operating common carrier (NVOCC) has commenced its third set of weekly less-than-containerload Xiamen-Chicago and Ningbo-New York (LCL) services with a weekly all-water to New York. This is the NVO's 16th weekly Ningbo-US LCL service, noted American Shipper. The Xiamen-Chicago service sails on Sundays with ANL on a 25-day transit, the company said. Shipco is a unit of Copenhagen's Scan-Group, a shipping and transportation company, employing 2,000 worldwide.  

Shanghai Port, Ningbo Port to form marine insurer

Shanghai Port and Ningbo Port will sponsor a marine insurance company in Ningbo, which will be the first such insurer in China, Menafn reports. Other insurance institutions will be introduced into the marine insurer and companies in shipping, port operation, logistics and marine industry will make investment into the marine insurer whose registered capital is initially set at CNY 500 million. PICC Property and Casualty Co. and China Pacific Property Insurance Co. in January 2011 unveiled marine insurance operation center in Shanghai respectively. Port operators' participation in the proposed marine insurer will endure stable client source, said insiders. The pilot marine insurer will target at port shipping as well as develop and promote marine insurance products. Then it will provide property and life insurance products and services in a bid to grow into a competitive insurer within five to ten years. It will mainly serve the Yangtze River Delta at early stage and then expand the business across the country in due course.

Sale of the China-flagged Mingzhou 18 to Jingzen Marine was confirmed last Thursday following a contract signing ceremony between the two companies. Ningbo Marine is principally engaged in marine transportation and road operation. The Chinese firm operates electrical coal transportation business from northern Chinese coal ports to power stations in Zhejiang province, as well as some international lines.
