Hebei Province in Central China aims to see its ports handle 592 million tonnes of cargo, including 1.2 million TEUs in 2010.

Based on its strongly-performing coal transportation business, the province plans to strengthen its container transportation and bulk transportation business. Meanwhile, it will expand the port industries and logistics services.

The province expects to see its throughput exceed 500 million tonnes of cargo in 2010, and to 800 million tonnes in 2020. It expects to have 119 productive berths and form preliminary systems for the transportation of coal, crude, ore and containers by 2010.

The Port of Tangshan, for instance, is set to focus on the integrated cargo transportation business, especially transport of bulk cargo, covering coal, crude oil and iron ore. Moreover, the Port of Huanghua, based on its current position of an energy port, is designed to become an integrated port handling coal, bulk cargo, container, and liquid chemicals and also providing services like storage and logistics.
